With the rapiddevelopment of our country’s economy as well as participate in the deepening ofinternational division, especially since the reform and opening up, port industry hasobtained the explosive growth in China with the rapid development of foreign tradeand international shipping industry.With the global economic integration and the continuous development ofcontainerization, the container terminals have a increasing impact on cargotransportation, and the status, function and operating environment of the terminals haschanged profoundly. Many port cities which have realized the leading role of portdevelopment in the region economy, and have proposed the development strategy of"prospering a city on harbor", have invest in a batch of new container terminals.However, the international trade and shipping industry affected by the globaleconomic development, make periodic changes. In a certain period of time, thecompetition between terminals will become intensive for the freight volumefluctuations. At the same time, there also are particular rules and trends in portdevelopment. Therefore, it is necessary for a container terminal company to setstrategy,which is based on the analysis of internal and external conditions.Collecting a large amount of data, this paper has discussed the influence on thecontainer terminal which is made by economic, trade and port development. Guidedby the enterprise strategy theory, and using PEST and SWOT tools, we have analyzedthe internal and external conditions of A container terminal in Tianjin Port Group, andestablished a practical and feasible corporate development strategy.
