As the leader undertaking the historical mission of economic and social development of western region, Chengdu is an important component in the national "two horizontal belts plus three vertical belts" urbanization strategy. Since the initiation of "Reform and Open up" policy in the late of1970s, industrialization and urbanization in Chengdu has experienced rapid development through land requisition. The institutional arrangement of land requisition in Chengdu has evolved from immaturity and maturity, which has witnessed continuous land requisition reform. Based on the review on the evolution of land requisition compensation in Chengdu and the counterparts in overseas countries such as United States, Germany and Japan, I analyze the existing problems and underlying causes of the institutions of land requisition compensation of Chengdu. Based on the discussions on the practices and experiences of land requisition compensation in Chengdu, this thesis proposes the policy suggestions on how to improve land requisition compensation in Chengdu, including the exit of government from land requisition process and the employment of decisive market power to balance interests of related parties to maximize the well-being of land losers.
