The Study On The Influencing Factors Of The Deficit In China’s Maritime Services Trade

Along with the rapid development of China’s trade in goods, maritime tradeservices as a derived demand for trade in goods, continually make progress. Ourdemand for maritime services and maritime transport capacity occupies an importantposition in the world and as the world recognized maritime power. The developmentof maritime trade in services is not only related to the smooth development of trade ingoods, the long-term development of trade in services, but also to promote the growthof China’s economy. However, according to research found that long-term tradedeficit of maritime services, which contradicts with our huge and ever-increasingdemand for maritime services and transport capacity, also lead to a deficit and hinderthe development of trade in services. Therefore, the study on the influencing factorsof our maritime services trade deficit, analyze the causes of the maritime deficit is amajor research purpose.Firstly, define the concept of maritime trade in services reference to thecontents of the GATS. And review the research literatures to ensure that there is anew ideas and innovative research methods. Secondly, combing the theory of trade inservices and apply it to the maritime trade services, and lay a solid theoreticalfoundation for the articles. And analysis the current development of maritime tradeservice, the long-term trade deficit and the major source is marine cargo transporttrade deficit. Finally, use the quantitative and qualitative analysis methods to analyzethe affecting factors of our maritime services trade deficit and explains in which waythey leading to the deficit. Proposed to follow the gradual opening-up policy,adjusting marine industrial structure, improve the competitiveness of maritime tradein services, strengthen enterprise management and other suggestions to convergemaritime services trade deficit.The paper focuses on the analysis of influencing factors of maritime trade service deficit. By selecting openness, maritime trade service competitive advantageindex, the GDP of the transport industry, trade in goods exports, above-scale coastaland ocean port cargo throughput trading volume and other factors of the maritimeservices trade deficit to do multiple regression empirical research. The results showedthat grasp of the domestic demand, improve the proportion of national wheelsmaritime carriage and enhance the competitiveness of maritime services could reducetrade deficit, higher degree of openness will lead to more trade deficit. Based on theresults of empirical research, the development of maritime shipping companies dosenot suit to the high degree of openness, the foreign shipping companies who havemore advantage take a higher carriage proportion of China’s exports of goods, lowermaritime services trade competitiveness results in a lower proportion of maritimeservices exports are the main reasons of maritime services trade deficit. Therefore,adjust the maritime industrial structure, enhance business management and otheraspects are the countermeasures.
