Aquatic products is not only an important source of high quality protein, is also an important product in China for export. And the production of aquatic products have higher economic benefits, not take the land resource of grain production, increase the income of farmers, so the fishery production has an important position in agriculture of our country. With the increase of population, urbanization, the improvement of people’s living standard, the demand of aquatic products grows rapidly. To meet the growing demand, we must improve the supply capacity of the aquatic products of our country. With the gradual depletion of marine fishery resources, freshwater aquaculture has become the main source of aquatic products. How to improve the supply capacity of freshwater aquaculture, is of great significance to guarantee the aquatic product supply and demand balance.There are three categories factors that can affect freshwater aquaculture production:one is the input, one is the progress of technology, another factor is the technical efficiency. Input such as the breeding area, labor input, fish, feed and other inputs, in reality, is scarce economic resources, the output of aquatic products cannot rely on the growth of inputs. In addition, technological progress in a short time is difficult to make a breakthrough. Therefore, to improve the technical efficiency of freshwater aquaculture, an important way to improve my the freshwater aquaculture production.This study is based on the data of18major freshwater aquaculture provinces from2004to2011, using the stochastic frontier analysis method (SFA) to analyses the technical efficiency of freshwater aquaculture, so to find out the factors affecting freshwater aquaculture technical efficiency, and the production elasticity of freshwater aquaculture.This paper proves that the overall technical efficiency of freshwater aquaculture in China is high, but the technical efficiency in time and space distribution is not uniform. Aquatic products processing industry and aquaculture mechanization promote technology efficiency of freshwater aquaculture, technical efficiency farming methods and the disaster situation of freshwater aquaculture is the important factors. China’s freshwater aquaculture are decreasing returns to scale, and labor and capital input to output of aquatic products contributed more than that of the breeding area.Policy suggestions include developing water processing industry, improving mechanization level of freshwater aquaculture, changing aquaculture mode, doing the freshwater aquaculture disaster prevention and relief work, according to local conditions, adjusting investment ratio of inputs. |
