The Research On Timber Currency And Trade In FUJIAN Province During The Qing Dynasty

In this paper, we take timber currency and trade in Fujian province during the Qing dynasty as the research object. First, the paper studied the distribution of forest resources and development of forestry in Fujian province during the Qing dynasty. Starting with timber planting and cultivation, timber harvesting and transport, timber trade in goods, this paper analyzed the specific circumstances prevailing timber trade. From the perspective of modern ecological civilization departure, Combined with the development of commodity economy, this paper analyzed the impact of the timber trade on the prevailing economic and social lives.Chapter one:Introduction. In this chapter, we try to Introduce the current research on the economic history of forestry; Combing the research status and problem on forestry management and timber trade; defining the relevant concepts about timber trade.Chapter Ⅱ:Through the introduction of the natural environment and economic geography, we overviewed the forestry development in Fujian during the Qing dynasty. Finally, we find out geographical distribution of forest resources in Fujian during the Qing dynasty by making full use of historical documents.Chapter Ⅲ:Analysis the timber currency and trade in Fujian during the Qing dynasty. As an important forestry province in southern China, Fujian timber planting and cultivation has a long history. Due to the different distribution areas of forest resources, timber harvesting and transportation have different ways and methods. There are three modes of transport, land, river and sea. From the formal point of view, there existed trade in Fujian province, there were also trade between Fujian and other provinces. From the point of view of trade body, there were official mining wood, there were also private timber trade. In the timber business, both local businessmen, Huishang, Zheshang and Jinshang have played an important role.Chapter Ⅳ:Reflection and inspiration on the timber currency and trade in Fujian during the Qing dynasty. There had unique reasons on the flourish of timber trade in Fujian during the Qing dynasty, such as emphasis on the economic value of the wood, or rapid development of commodity economy in the Qing dynasty. During the flourish, while promoting economic development and improving people’s living standards, timber trade also brought huge crisis on the local ecological environment.
