Promoting domestic demand will be one of the main tasks of economic reform inChina in the future period. When tourism turns to be a general demand of people, thestimulation of tourist consumption has already become significant measures forpromoting the domestic demands. Tourism shopping, as a significant part of tourismconsumption, is always a significant reference for measuring the development level oftourism market in a country or region. However, the development of touristcommodities in China lags behind, which has been restricting the development oftourism for a long time.In recent years, the tourist commodity market scale in Chongqing has beenexpanding over the past years, and the number of enterprises, commodity production,and commodity sales increases year by year, which has made great contributions tothe tourist industry in Chongqing. However, the depth and precision of touristcommodity development is insufficient, and the potential of tourist commodity marketin Chongqing has not been fully excavated. According to the practical conditions oftourist commodity development in Chongqing, the additional value of touristcommodities is proposed by combing the theories and studying the developmentcountermeasures, thus to enhance the market competitiveness of commodity market inChongqing.In this paper, the research background and significance are introduced at first,and based on the summarization of the theoretical study progress in domestic andforeign tourist commodities, concept of tourist commodity is illustrated, features andcategories of tourist commodities are concluded, and the distinctions and connectionsbetween the tourist commodities and tourist products are found out from theimplications. And then, the practical condition of tourist commodities in Chongqing isinvestigated, existing problems in the development of tourist commodities inChongqing are analyzed, and development principles of tourist commodities inChongqing are proposed on the basis of problems analysis. In this paper, it isconsidered that the improvement of additional value is a key to solve the developmentof tourist commodities in Chongqing, and the overall thought for improving theadditional value of tourist products is put forward: firstly, it shall further dig thehistoric culture connotation. The historic culture of Chongqing shall be excavated,and meanwhile, the cultural elements shall be integrated into the commoditydevelopment with designs and marketing methods. Secondly, it shall highlight thelocal folklore characteristic, including the exploration and classification of local folkcustoms and features, as well as the highlighting of folk features in touristcommodities. Thirdly, it shall refine the production of tourist commodities, improvethe production of tourist commodity manufacturers, and enhance the competitiveness of tourist products from both depth and precision. Fourthly, it shall increase themarketing, and shape the local brands. The government and enterprise shall cooperateto strengthen the marketing, thus to enhance the marketing effect and shape thefamous local brands. Fifthly, it shall improve the commodity operation environmentand quality of marketing personnel, including the specialization degree of touristproduct manufacturers, improvement of tourist production, as well as the skills andservice level of the sales team. Sixthly, it shall reinforce the policy support. It issuggested that the government can give considerable policy support and fiscalsubsidies to the tourist commodities.Finally, concepts about the development of some potential commodities, such asthe tourist souvenirs, tourist food, rare medicinal herbs, travel daily articles, areproposed, hoping that it has certain reference value for the development of touristcommodities in Chongqing.
