The second half of the19th century,is the important historical period during which thetransformation of modern America to contemporary occurred, in which the Civil War was one of thewatershed. The last30years in the19th century in American history, known as "the Gilded Age", ismainly featured with characteristics that the transition from laisser-faire capitalism to monopolycapitalism, the control power of the federal government was gradually taken by the burgeoningsouthern industrial bourgeoisie and the transformation of America from agricultural country toindustrial country. While the southern America mainly developed with unbalanced agriculture justlike the time before the Civil War, without enjoying "the Gilded Age ".Although the slavery wasabolished after the Civil War, agriculture was still the pillar industry just like the time before theCivil War. The slow development of all industries makes the southern America could not catch upwith the great tide of the capitalist economic development, turned to the rugged way of developingwith the cotton planting as the main method. There was numerous factors lead to the slowdevelopment of the southern America, such as war, politics, economy, etc. In this paper, we tried toanalyze the three main economic factors included in the restricting factors of agriculturaldevelopment.The paper is divided into four parts, each of which read as follows:The first part introduces the reason to the topic selection, economic area of the southernAmerica and domestic and overseas reviews on the history of the southern America.The second part introduces the impression to agricultural development of the southern America,brought by the labor force, which is seen as the economic factor. This part can be divided into threesections. The first section introduces the constructive structure of agricultural labor force in southAmerica, which would acquaint readers with features of both white and black people, and readerswould also be acquainted with the impression brought by the transformations after the Civil War.The second section introduces the restrictions to the development of south American agriculturebrought by the labor system, such as the abolition of slavery, the crop lien and the share-cropping.The third section tries to analyze the reason to labor shunt, which include war, urbanization,industrialization and domestication. The third part mainly introduces the restrictions to the development of south Americanagriculture, which can be divided into three sections. The first section introduces the effect that landbring to the development of agriculture. The second section introduces the effects on thedevelopment of south American agriculture which are brought by the natural factors, such as thecomposition of the soil, what is the most suitable crop for the south American agriculture andwhether there are any problems exist in planting. In the third section, we introduce the effect on thedevelopment of south American agriculture brought by the land policy, which include whether thegovernment ensured the peasants making money and improving their living quality with their land,This is of great importance to the development of south American agriculture.The forth part mainly states the effects on south American agriculture brought by bothdomestic and oversea American markets. Which can be divided into two parts, the first sectionintroduces the effects on development of south American agriculture which are brought by theAmerican oversea markets, and discusses in the context of increasingly fierce competition forAmerican oversea markets, it was a tendency that diversified markets call for diversifiedagro-products and whether the development of south American agriculture follow this tendency?The second section tries to analyze the restrictions to the development of south Americanagriculture brought by the domestic markets of America. Whether the southern Americanagriculture, which was greatly promoted by the great deals of domestic markets, could fulfill theneeds the domestic markets?...
