To identify and summarize the particular features of Chinese fashion commentary in the 1st decade of 21st century is a part of this dissertation’s object, which also tries to analyze the development and performance of fashion commentary in these two kinds of most representative fashion media of China.Fashion commentary is a record of the clothing culture. It especially contains the typical aesthetic inclination of a particular group of people during some periods of our society. (Bao Mingxin etc.,2005) Therefore, to study on the fashion commentaries published between 2000 and 2009 by Chinese writers and summarize their features can be very helpful for us to understand the dressing culture and phenomenon during this era. And when we put commentary’s media into our discussion, study of this thesis will be more meaningful. The Reform and Opening in 1978 brought an opportunity to the boom of Chinese fashion industry, meanwhile fashion media has been also growing rapidly. Among all the categories of media, fashion magazines’ development should count as a highlight. They have definitely become a crucial stage for the publishing of fashion commentary. However, comparing with political, economic and cultural ones, we will find fashion commentaries in current Chinese fashion magazines have an obvious tendency on their attitude towards the objects, which is positive under most circumstances. This is mainly because fashion magazines rely generally on the advertising rates from advertisers like the world well-known luxury brands to operate and then make profits. This relationship between magazine and advertiser has actually determined it’s difficult for the former to get rid of its dependence on the related interest groups. So the attitude with positive tendency of fashion magazine’s commentary becomes a direct consequence. But in our country, some fashion commentaries on the internet are quite different from those in fashion magazines. Blog plays a significant role in this whole situation. Its emergence around 2002 in China made individuals have more freedom to express their own opinions to the public. So a lot of fashion commentaries which can be read in blogs are accordingly able to convey the authors’original thoughts and different perspectives as much as possible. To sum up, it can be seen that fashion commentary’s writing attitude may change with its media when they are different. In other words, media have certain effects in the forming process of commentary’s attitude. So it will be more innovative to this dissertation if its study combines fashion commentary with media. And in this view, the development of fashion commentary in China can be also described more clearly. In addition, with the assistance of predecessors’researching achievements, this thesis carefully reviewed the origins of fashion magazine as an important media for fashion commentary in both the West and China. This probably can be regarded as its contribution to push back the boundary of fashion commentary study.
