In recent years, localization services in smart phone are being used in people’s daily life.It will provide convenient service for users, such as navigation services, target tracking etc.However, there are lots of applications on smart phones, which require localization services provided by GPS, WiFi or, the cellular base stations. Therefore, Smartphone power consumption is extremely high and worsens the user experience. In this paper, we present energy-efficient localization strategies for the localization-based services in smart phones.We considering three positioning method, GPS, WiFi and cellular communication,combined with environmental features, and present a series of energy-efficient localization strategy. At first, a timing localization strategy selects the energy-optimal techniques from multiple localization methods at the localization time point,and it dynamically estimates the next localization time point to avoid unnecessary localization operations after obtaining application accuracy requirement. Secondly, we adapt data fusion strategy, to improve the localization accuracy, therefor, low accuracy location method can be utilized in the applications that have high accuracy requirements, and this reduces energy consumption in smart phones. Finally, a the co-localization strategy is introduced, in which each user sends one message to servers and then, their resources are shared by themselves. These resources are useful for some users whose position accuracy are low, thereby improving the position accuracy of the part of users and consequently prolong the time interval of two consecutive localization operations, and further, the new strategy reduces energy consumption of smart phones. We evaluate the localization strategy through a series of simulations. The results show that our strategies can significantly reduce the localization energy consumption of smart phones while guarantee the localization accuracy.
