With the rapid development of optical fiber communication and optical fiber sensing, the application value of the fiber Bragg grating in the optical fiber sensor, optical fiber communication and optical information processing, becomes more and more widely. Fiber Bragg grating has many advantages, such as small volume, good coupling characteristics, wavelength selection, easy to connect with optical fiber system, low insertion loss, low cost etc. At present, fiber Bragg grating has become one of the most representative and the most promising optical passive components, therefore, the study of the theory of the fiber Bragg grating features has also been great concerned. And fiber Bragg grating spectral characteristics and its integrated research have very important practical significance.Firstly, this paper introduced the history, development and application of fiber grating, the emphasis on the analysis of the fiber Bragg grating method and the research status quo of comprehensive problems were reviewed. Then on the basis of Maxwell’s equations for the mode coupling theory of coupled-mode equation was carried on the theoretical derivation, and optical fiber Bragg gratings were analyzed by using the coupled-mode theory, and the coupled-mode equation of described the characteristic of fiber Bragg grating was obtained.Secondly, the coupled-mode equation of fiber Bragg grating was normalized processing, and easy numerical coupling equation was obtained. Application of the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method was used to solve the coupled-mode equation of fiber Bragg grating, and the arbitrary apodization function characteristics of the fiber Bragg grating analysis algorithm was completed. Then writing the C language program, and simulating different types of optical fiber Bragg gratings, and for different types of optical fiber Bragg grating to carry on the simulation, the corresponding spectrum and time delay, and the results were compared.Finally, comprehensive method based on the superimposed grating was proposed, with combining the reflectance spectrum characteristic of superimposed grating and the layer-peeling algorithm, Gaussian apodization function was applyed to synthesis of fiber Bragg grating. Then the algorithm program was wrote, through two examples, discussed the integrated spectrum error of the algorithm was discussed.
