Fiber gratings have been widely used in communication ,as a fiber inner apparatus since it was invented in 1970s.The research and application of Fiber Bragg Grating sensor have developed rapidly since Morey came up with Fiber Grating sensor in 1989.It is used in many fields such as structural engineering aerospace electrical engineering petrochemical engineering nuclear engineering and so on. Up to now, Fiber gratings used in sensing are fabricated with the fiber of which diameter is 125 μ m .it has not been found that fiber grating sensors are made with the fiber of which diameter is 80 y m.80 μ m diameter fiber is a upper NA and no-sensitive of bending single mode fiber. Because the material of envelope and cladding's geometry size is thin, fiber sensibility of bending loss will reduce remarkably, and have lower bending loss when it is close-grained. It applies in equipments which request rigorous in bending semi-diameter of fiber close-grained, pumped fiber, data type transmission, and sensor.This paper study the fabrication and sensing specialty of 80 μ m diameter Fiber grating. 80 μ m diameter Fiber grating compare whit 125 μ m diameter Fiber grating have superiority in sensing field application: Volume smaller, weight light, producing state-of-strain easier. In some special situation 80 μ m diameter Fiber Grating will play an important roleThe contributions of this paper are:1. The formation mechanism for 80 μ m diameter Fiber of FBG and LPG is analyzed, and the fiber photosensitive mechanism, the way to enhance the fiber photosensitivity by means of hydrogen loading and related mathematical model are studied;2. The coupled-mode theory for FBG and LPG is analyzed;the characteristic of FBG and LPG that shifts with temperature or axial strain was analyzed;3. The fabrication of FBG using phasic mask method LPG using amplitude mask method was introduced;4. The wavelength of FBG shifts with axial strain was tested;and wavelength of LPG shifts with temperature was tested.5. Using 80 μ m diameter Fiber of FBG and LPG make sensor, and their practical application were expound.
