With the improvement of technology for preparing fiber gratings, grating based on photonic crystal fiber engraved develops rapidly in the research and application field. By using the optical fiber grating that has the advantages of simple structure, flexible design, high sensitivity to measure refractive index is one of the applications of fiber grating. In this thesis, by the foundation and experience about optical fiber simulation and engraving, grapefruit Bragg and long period photonic crystal fiber grating refractive index sensing characteristics are studied, while the simulation and measurement of grating engraving and grating refraction index sensing are analyzed in detail. Details as follows:Firstly, the paper introduces the classification and application of photonic crystal fiber, and explains the research of background and significance.Secondly, the theoretical methods to analyze the fiber grating are studied, including the coupled mode theory and the local coupled mode theory. And the mode coupling between the Bragg and long period fiber gratings is analyzed in detail.Then, the paper studies systematically the formation mechanism and method of fabricating grapefruit photonic crystal fiber grating using ultraviolet laser and CO2 laser pulse, and the single-mode optical fiber and grapefruit type photonic crystal fiber fusion connect is analyzed. The experiment platform of the optical fiber grating is built, and the grapefruit Bragg photonic crystal fiber grating(PCF-FBG) and long period photonic crystal fiber grating(PCF-LPFG) is written successfully.Finally, by analyzing the sensing mechanism of grapefruit PCF-FBG and PCF-LPFG, and doing the simulation research, the respective resonant wavelength drift rule is obtained and refractive index sensitivity of different wavelength resonant mode is analyzed. Then through filling and etching on the engraving of grapefruit PCF-FBG and PCF-LPFG, the temperature and refraction-index sensing characteristics of the Grapefruit PCF-FBG and PCF-LPFG are measured, and the obtained drift regularity is verified, obtained filled and eroded grating refractive index sensitivity.
