Photonic crystal fiber, photonic crystal fiber,PCF)is a new generation developed technology based on photonic crystals and optical fiber. This kind of optical fiber has many advantages, such as low loss characteristics, without the single-mode characteristics, the solving of dispersion characteristics of flexible, strong birefringence effect, nonlinear, and the design transformation of microstructure can be controlled, with the maturation of the theory on fiber photonic crystal fiber, more perfect manufacture process, the application of the photonic crystal fiber sensor research also gradually become a hot spot.In this paper, emphasis of the study is the air hole filled with liquid crystal for photonic crystal fiber, and explore in the field of sensing technology.Through analyzing the characteristics of liquid crystal materials, shows its refractive index with the changing of electric or temperature.Combined with double waveguide coupled mode theory, found that the phase matching rule for the liquid crystal optical waveguide and optical fiber core. And the advantages/disadvantages of the detection methods are discussed.Experimental research mainly focus on liquid crystal filling process methods and the effect of the applied in electric field and temperature by optical fiber sensor, and put forward using femtosecond laser in fabrication processes of new efficient scheme, for the manufacturing process development of photonic crystal fiber sensor to explore.Photonic crystal fiber sensor with liquid filled has carried on the related research, for the development of photonic crystal fiber sensor in the related fields.
