This thesis discusses related technologies of indoor positioning system. The indoor positioning system architecture is given. Wireless sensor network (WSN) based on the Zigbee and the UWB positioning systems are used to realize a high precision indoor positioning system. The functions of the units in the system and the interaction between the units are described. Trilateration algorithm and inertial navigation algorithm are used to achieve positioning and the basic principles of the two algorithms are introduced. An embedded gateway is designed for data transmission and forwarding. The solutions and the implementation details of the gateway are given. The server is developed for receiving, storing, parsing data, extracting the required information, achieving positioning with algorithm and showing the location information. The solutions and the implementation details of the server are given.The thesis is divided into five chapters. In chapter 1, the background, significance of the project and the key technologies are introduced. In chapter 2, the indoor positioning system architecture is given and the functions of the units in the system and the interaction between the units are described. The basic principles of the trilateration algorithm and inertial navigation algorithm are introduced. In chapter 3, the functions, the solutions and the implementation details of the gateway are given. In chapter 4, the functions, the solutions and the implementation details of the server are given. At the same time, the Positioning results are displayed. In chapter 5, all work is summarized and research prospects are expected.
