Under the situation of increasing demand of high reliability network, the traditional hot-standby networking technology has not already solved the problem of single point of failure in key node position of network because of its own flaw. Based on further study of this issue, this paper puts forward a kind of software virtualization technology- IRF.This article started with the comparative analysis between IRF and the traditional hot-standby networking technology. Then, based on theoretical research of IRF, this paper gave an elaborate introduction to the process of topology collection, role selection and inter-board communication by way of modular analysis and design. In the end, the article has finished the comparative test for those two networking in accordance with common industry test method, through building hardware and software environment, using traffic generator to pour bidirectional traffic for the target network, making the network abnormal, recording the number of packets sent and received and calculating the system fault convergence time.The result of this comparative test shows the system fault convergence time of IRF network is far less than that of traditional network. IRF can solve the traffic switching problem caused by single point of failure, improve the network reliability better, and make the system fault convergence time meet the media-class reliability.
