Interactive Design For Single Theme Museums Under The Internet Of Things

With the technical revolution of display methods promoted by comprehensive museums, visitors’ behaviors and cognitive styles have been changed. The way of visiting focuses more on dynamic and interactive communications, and the exhibition becomes more virtual. The current trend requires model museums to provide more than traditional display methods, which are limited to single object exhibition, graphic description, and model simulation. The development of Internet of Things brings a new world for museum design.As public culture communication occasions, single theme museums critically serve the society as well. Although comprehensive museums take advantage of quantity and variety of collections over single theme museums, theme museums cannot be replaced due to their unique social mission and cultural characteristics. However, improving its information transmission way and efficiency has also become a vital issue for single theme museums. Therefore, allocating a feasible design principle for Chinese single theme museums are valuable. This paper will focus on information transmission ways for single theme museums, on the basis of three major technology application points of Internet of Things. The relationship among people, object, circumstance, and technology media will be discussed from the view point of experiential scenario, five-sense design, intelligent interaction design, and virtual online design. The paper intends to explore the development trend of si ngle theme museums under the Internet of Things background.Based on the Pinghu Stamp Museum design project to which the author contributed, the paper will conduct both theory and case study. The paper is going to propose the new information transmission methods and summarize the interactive design principles for single theme museums. With considerable practical experience, the author aims to providing valuable support for theme museum researchers and designers.
