Children’s TV Study On Preschool Children’s Moral Development

In today’s information society, the influence of television on children’s development is becoming more and more significant. This research investigate the basic situation of children’s TV viewing at home and in kindergarten by questionnaire, the attitudes of parents and teachers on children’s TV viewing by interviewing, and the influence of child TV program on children’s behavior and language by observing. The results are as follows:First, children watch TV for 30-40 minutes on working days and longer in weekends and holidays. They mostly watch entertainment programs. Second, child TV program do influence children’s moral cognition, behavior and emotion. It shows: when asked to judge the moral event in programs, children mostly make the same judgment as what is showed in TV program(67%); when watching TV, children talk and imitate moral behavior in TV programs; after watching TV, children imitate moral behavior in daily life.Through the analysis, this research point out that children mostly watching entertainment programs, which is not beneficial for children’s moral learning; child TV programs are sometimes violent, which lead to violent imitate behavior of children;parents did not guide children in TV viewing. Based on these problems, this research suggests enhancing the quality of TV program, purifying the content and strengthening parents’ guardianship.
