Routers are key devices of the Internet and distribute everywhere in the world. They are hubs of the Internet, connecting the LAN and Wan together. With the rapid development of the Internet, the function of a router is becoming more and more powerful, and the configu-ration of it is becoming more and more complex too. Usually, we need a professional to con-figure the router. The emergence of the remote control technology makes the professional can connect to remote equipment through the computer network. This improves the effi-ciency of remote equipment management. It’s very easy to check, set up, diagnose or repair the router via remote control since routers are distributed everywhere. At present, the main way of remote control of router is to use network protocol to log in through fixed network port of the router, such as Telnet, SSH protocol. All of these remote control methods require the support of remote network communication. But under some condition, such as the fixed network port is out of work for accessing the Internet due to network error, router error or Internet unreachable, the only way to control the router is to log in through the console of it locally. When there’s a problem with the router and the technologist can’t get access to it by remote control, he will have to come to the scene and use the console of the router to control it. This will waste of time and sometimes cause huge losses to customers.In order to solve the problem, this thesis puts forward a scheme of remote control sys-tem based on the console of the router, and designs a remote control system for routers to verify the feasibility of the scheme. This control system is composed of ARM9 development board, wireless network card, Linux system and application software. The serial port of this System can connect to the console of the router and the wireless network card can receive remote control information. The remote control software was designed to run on the remote control system in this thesis to realize the transmission between the remote control terminal and the console of the router. Then technologists can remote control a router by the console through this remote control system.In this thesis, JZ2440 development board and ZTE AC2736 wireless network card were used to build the hardware system of the remote control system, Linux system, serial port driver, wireless network card driver and usb_modeswitch tool were transplant to the remote control system. And the wireless network card can be driven to work and the serial port can send and receive data. Then, three way of remote control software were designed. Firstly, the way of remote control of SMS. Through the development of SMS control software to com-plete the data exchange between the remote control terminal and the console of a router. The second scheme is based on socket communication to achieve the client/server communica- tion model in remote control. Through the development of server program which runs on the remote control system and client program which runs on the control terminal to realize the communication between the control terminal and the router console. The third method is based on socket communication to achieve the client/server/client communication model of remote control, by developing the server program which runs on the public host and the clients program which run on the remote control system or on the control terminal, so as to realize the information transmission between control terminal and the console of the router. The introduction of server can realize the information transmission between the client and the client in heterogeneous network. This system provides a remote control communication link which is independent of the network environment of the router, so it can be used as a supplement to the existing router remote control scheme. At last, three remote control soft-wares were tested respectively, and they all reached the goal of remote control of a router through the console of it. The feasibility of the scheme is proved.
