With the rapid advance of economy and the substantial improvement of science, people’s demand for home environment is getting higher and higher. In recent years, a large number of harmful substances emitted by the home decoration materials and outdoor air pollution led to serious environmental pollution problems.the problems have become increasingly prominent. It is common that family fire, gas leakage and other security incidents. What the urgent needs of people is to monitor their home environment and to detect the safety problems in anywhere and anytime. As the traditional Environmental Monitoring System which is single function can not get on real-time monitoring and satisfy people’s needs, a new Environmental Monitoring System which is based on Android platform and multiple-parameter is proposed. It is important to translate this system into a smart home monitoring products adapting to the market.In this paper, we can design a home environment monitoring system based on the Android platform. The system needs to use combination of technologies, particularly ZigBee, WiFi short-range wireless communications technology, micro-controller technology and the development of Java technology. The environmental parameters of monitoring system are temperature, humidity, CO2, formaldehyde, TVOC(Total Volatile Organic Compounds), PM2.5 and noise. Firstly, to achieve the function of automatic capturing and transferring home wireless network node data, ZigBee module is used to set up home wireless sensor network. Then, we can build a home gateway using S3C6410X processor platform based on embedded Linux system and design modular gateway software. Its main function is to store,analyze and process the data. And it achieved the data exchange between home sensor networks and servers. Finally, we designed an Android application to complete the dynamic information exchange between the phone and server and to achieve the real-time monitoring.Last of this paper is the test and accuracy analysis of this system. The results of test show that the software application has a friendly user interface and completed the real-time monitoring. In addition, it not only achieved the SMS alarm function, but also achieved a relatively high accuracy of monitoring with the error range of 5%. The system can meet the requirements of the monitoring system and the needs of users with its stability. It has practical significance and application value.
