With the improvement of living standards, smart home system (SHS) becomes the key topic of science research and the family enviroment intelligent monitoring (FEM) plays an important role in SHS. The traditional cable family environment monitoring system has the disadvantages of poor function extension and system update as well as high installation cost. With the development of wireless communication technology in recent years, the new wireless network technology, ZigBee, becomes the hot topic in Internet of things and intelligent home for the merits of low complexity and power consumption, which meets the requirements of network communication on wireless smart home. For the past few years, smartphone with the ability of accessing the internet is widely used, which means cell phone has surpassed its usual functions and already been into all aspects of human life. Monitoring the house environment through smartphone would bring higher quality life to human beings. Therefore, for the aim of achieving FEM, extending network and hort-range wireless communication technology to smart home system and developing new application based on Android Mobile system would lead the future trend.Firstly, by analysing the theory of ZigBee and Android, iscussing the needs of FEM, the paper suggests a design of FEM based on ZigBee and Android technology. Secondly, the paper brings about the hardware design of master and sensor node based on ZigBee technique. CC2530F256, a TI’s new generation of SOC chip, is the core of hardware platform, combining with lots of sensors, for instance, temperature probe, humidity sensor, smoke transmitter, light inductor. Thirdly, with infrastructure of ZStack-CC2530-2.2.2-1.3.0protocol and a short address allocation plan based on cluster-tree topology, the paper realizes the ZigBee self-organization network within the family, gathering the data collected by sensor nodes to the master node. At the same time, according to the FEM’s communication format, by transmitting data through serial interface, the management software running on the computer would obtain the environment information. Finally, the paper develops a simple and practical FEM’s client software on Android smartphone, which accesses the computer server according to Socket communication mode. The application on Android smartphone would remotely get the home environment and realize the control of family appliances.Based on ZigBee and Android technology, the system achieves the FEM system from two aspects of hardware and software. The hardware system has the advantages of low cost, small in size, low-power consumption and convenient for installation. By allocating the short address with hierarchically dynamic scheme and setting up the network through ZigBee adhoc network routing protocol, the system owns the ability of flexibility and robustness.Under the Android platform, the application client developed by JAVA language realizes real-time monitoring and controlling of family environment through home server. It is experimentally proved that the system works well in family environment intelligent monitoring and device remote control, and suggesting the potential application in millitary, industry, agriculture and other fields with a prosperous future.
