With the development of Switching and Fast Ethernet technology, Industrial Ethernet has become more and more widely. Industrial Ethernet has a good development environment that supporting visual C++, VB, Java and multiple languages, Fast, Gigabit Ethernet is already widely used, which is faster than traditional field bus a few times, or even a hundred times. Resource sharing capabilities is strong to achieve business layer and control layer integrated management. Price is inexpensive that means Industrial Ethernet development prospects are very wide. Industrial Ethernet fieldbus replace the traditional applications in the industrial field is an inevitable trend.In this thesis, we used the OPNET network simulation software to simulate and analyze the EtherNet/IP, and used Netlinx network platform to build specific industrial control network instance.In this thesis, we analyzed how EtherNet/IP to ensure real-time and reliability from protocol, information exchange, network topology three aspects. We worked on OPNET software platform to build the EtherNet/IP network model, mainly building the TCP/IP network model and the underlying Ethernet network model. Then we sent non-real-time and real-time information on the platform to measure network latency, utilization, packet loss rate and other parameters under different communication mode to determine whether its performance meets the industrial field applications. In order to analyze the different network structures to the impact of network latency, we analyzed the network simulation of tree and linear network topology and got the network delay parameter of the explicit communications and implicit communications. By comparing the tree network structure is better than linear, get the conclusion of the principle of networking.Finally using hardware and software provided by the Rockwell Automation company, built water tank level control system and steering-by-wire system communicated by EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet. We mainly designed the system’s hardware and software, including network structure, programming and network configuration. Verify the applicability of Industrial Ethernet.
