Sound source localization technology based on microphone arrays and beam-forming algorithm is to obtain the exact location of the sound by using microphone arrays collecting the sound signals and determine the location of sound after processing the beam-forming algorithm. This sound source localization is widely used in the noise source localization of larger machine and troubleshooting. Previous sound source localization technology solve much social problem but the localization affect have bad performance due to the inconvenient and high cost of hardware or the confusing of localization algorithm. The sound localization technology have been made a progress while the FPGA and high speed data synchronize acquisition chips appearing. This paper designed a sound localization system with high-speed AD and FPGA has advantages such as small size, lower cost, high real-time performance and better localization effect.This paper expound the picking of circular microphone array in the beginning and choose the beam-forming algorithm as our main localization algorithm after comparing the three common sound localization algorithm. Meanwhile,considering the sensitive of our system to the interference, this paper choose the MVDR with strong anti-interference and high resolution ratio as our final localization algorithm after comparing and analyzing the simulation charts of DBF and MVDR.Based on the theory,this paper designed the sound localization system’s hardware circuit with a microphone array with 8 array elements, data synchronize acquisition chip AD7606, data processing platform FPGA. The AD7606 has 16bits sampling precision and 200KSPS sampling rate combined with the FPGA which have strong embedded function and SDRAM can truly fit the demand of the sound localization system. Then, this paper also finish the software design for the main function of the system.In order to show the consequence of the sound source localization,this paper designed a humanize PC interface with Visual Studio 2008. This sound source localization system can fit the demand after comparing the direction angle and pitch angle of the localization consequence.
