Catering service is one of the key focuses in the development of higher educational institutions all the time. However, it is always a tricky problem how to effectively and efficiently manage catering services in higher educational institutions by the means of information technology, so as to improve the quality of catering services, the working efficiency of catering staff and the satisfaction of students and teachers. Moreover, it is difficult to cater for everyone’s taste, especially every student’s taste as the objects of catering services in higher educational institutions are mainly young students from across the country. Therefore, catering services in higher educational institutions should keep pace with the times to meet the needs of young people, which sets higher standards for catering services in higher educational institutions.With the frequent use of information technology in higher educational institutions, it is urgent for catering service suppliers to optimize the process of raw material procurement, simplify preparing work for meals and offer featured services based on information technology. Against such a background, investigation has been made on catering management for many times, and relevant work has been analyzed and summarized. Based on the existing work process, in combination with the rules and regulations of higher educational institutions, the process is optimized to establish a standardized information-based process. Thus, actual needs are presented, including procurement management, dining management, communication and interaction, and personnel performance management and so on. To meet the functional needs, as well as considering the operational habits and usage scenarios of users and the user scale of the system, B/S architecture is adopted for the system, with SSH (Struts, Spring, Hibernate) as the bottom framework of the system and MySQL as the backend database. At the front end, jquery and css3 are used to enrich the effects of interaction on pages, and the backend program is developed based on the Java language.The whole process of system development strictly follows every requirement on software projects. From requirement analysis to launch on line, it has gone through a series of procedures, including general design, detailed design, database design, code development, unit testing and integration testing and so on.From investigation and analysis to final completion and launch on line, the catering service system of higher educational institutions realizes the management of catering services based on information technology, and reduces the errors in work caused by manual management and makes the management process transparent, thus saving resources, providing fast services to teachers and students and greatly improving their satisfaction with campus catering services.
