Regarding the wide-band wide-angle phased array antenna technology as the research direction, a phased array antenna working with a wide frequency band and a large scanning angle is analyzed and designed with actual engineering application demand in this paper. Wide-band antenna array as a unit, focusing on the research on small array of wide-band wide-angle scanning phased array antenna. In this paper, the main work on the research content is summarized as four parts:1. In accordance of the design requirements of wide-band wide-angle phased array element antenna, Vivaldi antenna in the impedance bandwidth and radiation pattern characteristics is analyzed. Studying feed structure and radiation characteristics of Vivaldi antenna, Vivaldi antenna miniaturized, whose height is design only 9.2mm, has a good impedance characteristics and beamwidth at frequency bandwidth fLf0.2. To study the small array of wide-band wide-angle scanning features phased array antenna, the wide-band wide-angle phased array consisted of Vivaldi antenna antenna element uses a separate Wide Angle Impedance Matching(WAIM), Defected Ground Structure(DGS) and the passive days to reduce the mutual coupling effect. The advanced wide-band wide-angle 5×5 or 9×9 array is designed that at bandwidth fLf0 the beamwidth of the active element pattern in E-plane or H-plane is greater than 120°; at high frequency fH the beamwidth is greater than 100°. At bandwidth fLf0 of X-band the active reflection coefficient and gain loss scanning angle be ±60° scan. At the high frequency fH scanning angle can be ±50°, for achieving the technical requirements of "the small array of wide-band wide-angle scanning features phased array antenna".3. On the basis of the simulation model of wide-band wide-angle array, 9×9 array antenna is fabricated and measured. Working in a bandwidth of 40%, active VSWR of the array is less than 2, the test result shows that the antenna array has a good characteristic of wide-band wide-angle scanning. Because of the simple structure and light weight, the array has a great application value in phased array.4. Because of the error of phased array antenna between measurement and simulation, as close to the physical design, the wide-band wide-angle phased array is designed to optimize with the influence of the metal floor and absorbing material in the model. And the 9×9 array antenna is fabricated and measured again. The test show and satisfies a symmetric pattern with 3dB beam width better than 120o and 100o at bandwidth fLf0and in high frequency fH, respectively. The design result is related to the measure and the error is low.
