Wireless Sensor Network(WSN)is composed of a large number of wireless sensor nodes. Once deployed, it is difficult to provide energy supplement through the outside world which is an important factor limiting the value of WSN. Energy issues are related to routing protocols closely, and to design a routing protocol which can extend the life cycle of WSN is a great challenge for scientific and technical workers in the WSN research. Different from other forms of wired networks and wireless networks, WSN has the completely different characteristics-resource constraints;for instance, energyconfinement, node communication radius constraint and local information processing capacity constraints.Considering the characteristics of WSN routing protocols, such as self-organizingnetwork(random deployment),data redundancy(multi-node monitoring the same event). Based on local topology information (hardware constraints), network function(data collection) and as the center. This paper introduces the working process of LEACH, network model and physical model, research progress and its own advantages and disadvantages. Making two improvements in the cluster head thresholding and clustering phase and dealing with the shortcoming of the LEACH,a new algorithm-NewLEACH is put forward.A simulation experiment is conducted by using Matlab to verify the performance of the improved NewLEACH algorithm for WSN network. By comparing with the other 3 algorithms, the simulation results show that the improved NewLEACH routing algorithm can improve the network throughput, reduce the network overhead and extend the life cycles of nodes and network.
