With the rapid development of network technology and the constant increase of the demand for data business, the requirements for network bandwidth, optical cable resources, link protection and other aspects are becoming increasingly higher. It has become the main direction of the network development to carry networks of multiple business types such as broadband, VOD, private networks of enterprises. Demanded by these multiple business types and multiple interface speed rates, SDH and WDM transmission technologies had once become the important networking technologies in transport layer relying on their advantages of large transmission capacity, supporting high-level protocol and the certain expansibility. However, because SDH technology focuses on circuit cross, it cannot conduct holistic scheduling of data in optical layer. WDM technology has rather fixed up wave and down wave, thus, it lacks flexible scheduling of small-particle business and has relatively poor maintenance capability in terms of wavelength division side. However, OTN technology has inherited the advantages of WDM and SDH technologies, which not only can satisfy the overall arrangement of optical layer data, but also can conduct flexible allocation of small-particle businesses. Therefore, OTN technology has become the important technology of optical layer transmission as well as the selective preference of backbone operating network.This paper states the fundamentals of OTN technology to indicate the advantages of OTN technology in the existing network technology. It points out that using OTN equipments in the networking of the backbone layer has become the development tendency of the backbone network. OTN technology will become the first choice for the next-generation optical transmission network.By analyzing the resource situation and each platform’s network topology of Tianjin TV Network, and combining the problems such as lack of cable resources, high demand of business bandwidth, and existed capacity bottleneck, this paper puts forward the plan, design and implementation plan of OTN equipment networking so as to improve and solve the development bottleneck of the current network. Besides, it puts forward and demonstrates solution as well as explains implementation process for network breakdowns and technological problems of update and expands after OTN equipment networking.
