In the background of the great development of optoelectronic applications, high repetition frequency and high energy can be applied in more and more field. To conventional pulsed laser, increasing in repetition rate and pulse energy simultaneously is contradictory. Pulse-burst laser gets more and more academic attention because of its characteristic that is easy to achieve high repetition frequency and large single pulse energy. Abroad, few of several research units have already carried out a series of studies to pulse-burst laser’s characteristic of generation and amplification. And actively exploring its application in the field of laser induced fluorescence diagnosis technology and the like. In contrast, the domestic for pulse-burst laser research is few. For this situation, this paper has carried out the research work of pulse-burst laser. Realizing flexible selection of pulse-burst laser by means of intra cavity modulation. And high efficiency amplification of the selected pulse-burst laser is carried out. Having achieved the high repetition frequency and large single pulse energy of pulse-burst laser output within a certain time range.The paper briefly introduces the Nd:YAG crystal, a nalyzes and compares a variety of Q-methods. By establishing a Q-rate equation and optimizing it, we gets the expression of crystal energy extraction efficiency, resonator output energy, pulse width and best output mirror reflectivity. This work can provide good theoretical guidance to subsequent experiments.Secondly, in order to guide pulse-burst laser amplification work, we use MATLAB software to simulate laser amplificatio n process, analyze factors’ effect to the process, such as the seed light energy density, pump energy and amplification gain factor.Finally, we carried out experiment of pulse-burst laser based on cavity modulated. Flash lamp side pump and LD side pump are respectively used to realize the flexible selection of pulse-burst laser, combining cavity acousto-optic adjustable Q. Then, amplifying the pulse-burst laser selected by the LD side pump. When selecting the pulse interval 100μs, we selected 2 pulses, a single pulse energy was 85.2m J; When selecting the pulse interval 20μs, we selected 12 pulses, a single pulse energy was 17.7m J; When selecting the pulse interval 10μs, we selected 25 pulses, a single pulse energy was 8.8m J. Experimental results show that the pulse-burst laser compared to traditional pulse laser has the advantage of high repetition frequency and large single pulse energy balanced within a certain period of time.
