Functions And Effects Of Current Affairs Talk Shows Of Pakistan’s Private Television Channels

This study is a research on Current Affairs Talk Shows of Pakistan’s Private Television Channels. It concentrates on: what are the main functions of Talk Shows, what kinds of content do they present, how do they present the content and what kinds of effect do they have on people. Four famous Talk Shows of Private TV Channels are selected through purposive sampling for data analysis. In addition, a survey is conducted through snow ball sampling from educated people of Pakistan to get their opinion about Current Affairs Talk Shows. Both Qualitative and Quantitative methods have been used for the data analysis. Findings of the study discovered that majority of Current Affairs Talk Shows not only highlighted current issues but also suggested solutions for the problems through the content by constructive criticisms and discussions. It also underscores several shortcomings of the talk shows and respondents attitude towards them. Majority of the people showed their satisfaction with currency, information and functions of talk shows, but at the same time they showed their dissatisfaction with the attitude, behavior and presentation of the participants of the talk shows.
