Research And Implementation Of Evaluation Methods For Ontology Quality

As a conceptual model of describing information in semantic level, the ontology is becoming more and more important in intelligent information retrieval, knowledge acquisition, representation, analysis and application. At present there are a large number of ontologies to be constructed but their qualities are uneven due to the diversity of constructing tools, the inconsistency of building methods, and the differences level of domain knowledge of ontology engineers etc. How to select the excellent ontology to meet the needs of users from existing ontologies, and how to guide the ontology builders to construct good quality ontology are very important and urgent to solve problems in the application of ontologies. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the quality of ontology.Existing ontology quality evaluation lack of systematic assessment, mature theoretical guidance and a specific evaluation criterion, respectively to evaluate only from one aspect, rare is from the perspective of global to evaluate the quality of ontology. To solve the above problem, this paper absorbs the idea from the software quality model, and puts forward the ontology quality model and use this model to evaluate the quality of ontology. The major work is listed as follows.Firstly, the ontology quality meta-model and quality model were proposed by contrasting and analyzing several famous software quality models and the detailed analysis of ISO/IEC 25010 software quality model. Then this paper analyzes the characteristics and sub-characteristics of ontology quality should meet, and expounds their meaning in detail. Finally, it gives the measurement of ontology quality attributes.Secondly, combining ontology quality model, the evaluation model including attribute model, evidence model, evaluating indicator and evaluating rule for ontology quality is designed. The implementation process of ontology quality evaluation is analysised in details, and using it to guideline concrete implementations.Finally, the ontology quality evaluation tool is designed and implemented which can support attribute model, evidence model and evaluation indicator customization is constructed visually and the evaluation result of quality attributes is calculated automatically.
