With the development of automation technology, as a key equipment of modern intelligent material handling system, automated guided vehicle(AGV) has a wide application prospect in automatic material handling system. Simultaneous, the capacity of AGV system is gradually increasing, the complexity of system control and scheduling is also rising. In this paper, taking the AGV system application in the mixed job shop as research background, the research on intelligent dispatching and control of AGV system has been carried out as following:First, Based on the characteristics of the mixed-model assembly process and existing problems, the requirements of the intelligent scheduling and control system using AGV platform is analyzed. Simultaneously, the design of this hybrid system based on AGV platform is developed.Second, after the automatic identification technology of parts and the positioning technology of AGV system have been researched and analyzed, a method of intelligent identification of individuals has been designed with the combination of RFID tag and bar code. Simultaneously, a method based on RFID technology and odometer is proposed. The path segment is determined by using RFID technology, the relative positioning technology is realized by using the odometer to get the position of AGV in this path segment. After those, real-time position data is provided for remote monitoring system.Then, for the problem of AGV dispatching and task assignment for hybrid flow job shop, anAGV system dispatching model is built with the AGV task allocation as decision variables. Themodel is to minimize the time used for material handling. After that an improved genetic algorithmwas proposed. Finally, the feasibility of the method was proved by a case.Finally, based on theoretical research mentioned above and the AGV platform of laboratory, the intelligent dispatching and Control system based on AGV platform for mixed-mode job is developed. This system mainly includes high-level dispatch control unit and vehicle dispatch planner. A method of traffic control based on task priority and path capacity is advanced. Furthermore, these methods are applied to an AGV system for the car engine assembly in Tian Qi logistics system engineering company, which proves the effectiveness of the developed system.
