Mobile Ad Hoc Network(MANET) is a kind of important wireless network. Such a network has the characteristics of no center, multi-hops, self-organizing, self-management, self-healing, temporary organizing and so on. Routing technology is one of the key technologies in MANET. At present, a series of routing protocols for MANET has been designed. According to the routing strategy, the routing protocols for MANET may be divided into proactive routing protocols(such as DSDV, OLSR, FSR), on-demand routing protocols(such as AODV, AOMDV, CBRP, DSR), as well as hybrid routing protocols(such as ZRP). These protocols have different advantages in performance. And hence, it is meaningful for the applications of MANET to evaluate the comprehensive performance of routing protocols rationally and effectively. In order to compare the performance of the routing protocols for MANET quantitatively, we designed and implemented a platform of simulation and performance evaluation on routing protocols in MANET. This platform is based on NS2, the user can set up simulation parameters through the graphical interface, and then the system can carry on the simulation experiment according to the specified parameters and the routing protocol in MANET. Finally, we can get the results of the experiment. To evaluate the performance of routing protocols, we integrated three kinds of comprehensive evaluation methods into the platform. There are Borda sequencing method, objective linear weighting method, subjective and objective combined evaluation method. Basing on the simulation results, the user can compare and evaluate these protocols in MANET by using these schemes. In the end, by using the platform, we have done some simulations and evaluations on DSDV, OLSR, FSR, AODV, AOMDV, DSR, CBRP and ZRP in various ways. Our experiments show that the platform can greatly reduce the workload of the routing protocol simulation. The results are in good agreement with theory. It shows that the platform can provide some convenience for research ing of routing protocols in Mobile Ad Hoc Network.
