Multicasting is a technology that can send data to multiple receivers in an efficient and extendable way. Many experts believe that it is one the most important technology of the Next Generation Internet. Multicast Routing Protocol directly to affect the network performance, as a result of the network itself complexity, it is too difficult to analyze the Multicast Routing Protocol to the network performance influence. With the development of the computer technology, simulation plays an important role in analyzing and designing complex systems, such as network. Network simulation has already one of the important works in network design and performance testing. The Virtual Inter -Network Testbed (VINT) project has enhanced its network simulator (NS) and related software to provide several practical innovations that broaden the conditions under which researchers can evaluate network performance. NS is an ideal testbed for comparing protocols because it offers publicly available simulator with a large protocol library. A general environment is supplied for those low-cost experiments by the muti-protocol network simulator, which can be used in various network study fields. In conclusion, this article's contributions focus on:· The multicast routing protocol theory introduced and the character of the multicast routing protocol analyzed;· NS-2 structure and the main objects and functions including that understand the relatinship of main objects and master the core methods in detail analyzed;· Simulation scheme are carried out for the multicast routing protocol, anlaye the relationship of simulation classes and implement the multicast routing protocol in NS-2, analyze the trace format and write the codes to get network performance parms;· Different multicast routing protocol analyzed by network simulation, DVMRP suits the massive receivers or data stream frequent situation but the extension misses, PIM-SM suits the few receivers or data stream infrequent situation, PIM-DM suits the few senders and massive receiversor data stream frequent situation.
