Research On Redesign Of User Interface Of University Digital Library Based On Emotional Design Theory

Digital library is becoming a quite popular way to search information for those who love libraries. This new kind of library enables information to be transferred through network without limit of time and space. Domestic digital libraries still have the problem of information overload and can easily get their users lost as a result of their bad designed user interfaces and information presentation.This paper analyzes the emotional design theory– beautiful object makes better usability- used in product design and website user interface design, combining with the situation and the development trends of digital library, presents the importance of using emotional design theory in university digital library interface design.Firstly, author conducted a series of user research to get user experience through three methods: ―Kansei sheets‖, camera shooting and user interview using Shanghai Jiao Tong University digital library as an example. Then user needs and tasks model can be built. After using emotional design theory to analyze emotional factors of university digital library user interface design and pointed out the defects of the current design, author rebuilt the information architecture, redesigned the website prototype, established the color system, designed icons and images which matched the website theme, decided which font to use and the type of format and proposed new types of dynamic interaction.
