Theo Jansen, the Dutch scientist, spent years in making walking robot that made up of thin plastic tubes, which can take a stable walk on the beach. At the same time, because the structure and control of the most walking machines in current research is complex, so most of them are at the stage of laboratory research and not used in real life. Therefore, this paper aims to apply good terminal trail of Jansen Linkage to a kind of manned walking machine. And finally we can design and manufacture a new scooter with simple structures, which can easily control and reduce costs. Not only can it mitigate the tiredness of tourists, but can bring new ride experience and allow visitors to enjoy the travel as well.Firstly,the paper briefly describe the structural composition and kinematic analysis of Jansen mechanism in order to provide methods for the solution of terminal trail and to provide basis for optimization and determination of the parameters of subsequent rod pieces. Secondly, this paper constructs the overall design scheme of the new scooter based on performance requirements and parameter indexes. Therefore, this paper optimized the selection of parameters of Jansen’s lever mechanisms and designed the mechanical structure and also designed hardware and software of control system according to the overall design scheme. Through all these work, we can finally complete all the design tasks of this new scooter. Last but not least, the paper conducted a dynamic simulation experiment of new scooter by using Adams virtual prototype simulation. In addition, the paper produced a scaled-down version of physical prototype and conducted a corresponding walking experiment through which explores the kinematic performance of the scooter.Through the above simulation and scaled-down version of physical prototype experiment we can find that the motion of the scooter, whether go straight or turn, is very smooth without obvious jolt and tilt. The motion characteristics of this new scooter satisfy the using requirement of vehicle in scenic spots. In conclusion, the design is feasible.
