Gamut mapping is an important step to make sure the accuracy of color transmission among different mediums. Therefore, improving the efficiency of gamut mapping algorithm(GMA) is a way to promote the quality of color reproduction. By now, there are numbers of GMAs and most of them are space-irrelevant mapping algorithms, which have low time consumption, low chromatic aberration and high quality of color reproduction. However, in contrast to color patches, image’s visual perception is not only about color, it also depends on pixels, since every pixel will be impacted by the nearby pixels. Spatial gamut mapping algorithms(SGMAs), based on the characteristics of human eyes, protect the relationship between pixels, which reflected at the high-frequency detail part of images. These algorithms have complex calculation, consume lots of time and the result usually comes with halation. In order to improving the quality of gamut mapping and lower time consuming, it is necessary to do more research on gamut mapping algorithm.The primary coverage of this paper on gamut mapping algorithms includes:Contrast spatial gamut mapping algorithms with space-irrelevant gamut mapping algorithms. Find out the advantages of two kinds of algorithms that can be used in the new algorithm.Analyze the principle of common filters. Contrast the effects of spatial gamut mapping algorithms using different filters. And then choose a better filter to be used in new algorithm.Propose a new gamut mapping algorithm to improve the efficiency of gamut mapping and decrease halation.The innovation of this paper includes:Use single-mapping in the new algorithm to improve current situation of spatial gamut mapping algorithm, lower time consumption.Use guided filter in the new algorithm to solve halo defects. Improve the result of special gamut mapping algorithm.Optimize threshold base on the distribution of color values in target gamut. Use sectionalized mapping to keep the color in the target gamut and protect the pixel relationship outside target gamut to obtain a balance in color and detail.
