With the rapid development of projection display technology, people have higher and higher requirements in the color effect. Laser performs outstandingly in the single color among the available light source and can cover about80%perceptual color gamut space, so laser projection display technology will be an important development direction in the display field. The idea of putting a color management module in the laser display system is raised for the laser projection display covered color space can compatible with the traditional display signal. Firstly, device-dependent color signal is turned to device-independent color signal in the color management system of laser display. Then according to the relation of source color gamut and target color gamut the image is making gamut extension mapping in the device-independent space. Lastly, it is turned back to device-dependent color signal. This paper mainly describes some merits and demerits of gamut compression algorithm used in the gamut extension. Based on different images are analyzed in the simulation process and different algorithms have different applicabilities to different images, a better manner to fit people's vision feeling is put forward. In the process of hardware implementation, nonlinear algorithm turning RGB to LCH is hardly to implement. Because of using look up table can bring a higher speed in hardware implementation,3-D interpolation algorithm is introduced in this article. The matrix operation in the hardware implementation is completed in tetrahedron interpolation algorithm, so this article using selecting a cubic relative coordinate concept to solve this problem. It brings a lower resources share and a simpler algorithm implementation.
