Passive UHF RFID is one of the core technology of Internet of Things. It can be used to identify single thing and operate through package materials, and can support multiple tag operations. The RFID system consists of tags, reader and antenna. Each tag contains a unique electrical identity; the reader is use to read the information from tags. It can be designed to fixed version or mobile version; Antenna is used to transfer RF signals. Some RFID are active RFID and some are passive. Some RFID works at low frequency(LF), some at high frequency, and some at ultra high frequency(UHF). Passive UHF RFID are base on ISO 18000-C and EPC gen 2 international standard.Impinj Company and Alien Company take the lead on technology of UHF RFID. The most advanced passive UHF RFID can operate with-18 d Bm at 20 meters. The key point of low energy operation is the efficiency of rectifier and low power chip design. The most advanced rectifier can reach 40% efficiency with chip power consumption of 3u W.In this thesis, a passive UHF RFID chip is designed, including chip specification, chip architecture, sub-block specifications, circuit design and test result. Based on top-down design methodology, a design target is set up for the whole chip and the target is divided to all sub blocks. The target is realized from quantitative analysis of rectifier, allocation of power consumption target from top, and the design of a temperature compensate oscillator. The chip has small size and low power consumption. The design is verified by experimental test.
