The acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) is a new type of spectral component. Meanwhile, compared with conventional spectroscopic devices, it has superiority of small volume, rapid tuning, large aperture angle, high diffraction efficiency, narrow band pass and so on. Therefore, the AOTF has wide potential applications in many aspects, such as rapid spectral analysis, optical image processing, environmental monitoring, optical computing, wavelength division multiplexing and spectral imaging. It is convenience for the design and production of the noncollinear AOTF because it does not require the collinear of incident light wave vector and ultrasound wave vector. However, compared to linear AOTF, spectral resolution of the noncollinear AOTF will decrease. The spectral resolution is one of main index of evaluating the performance of the designed AOTF. Therefore, it is a hot research area in related study and also the need of widely application improving the spectral resolution of noncollinear AOTF.In this paper, with the independent design of narrow band AOTF based on tellurium dioxide crystal as the research object, we carried on research into two parts:the different direction of incident light on AOTF performance impact and double-filtering performance analysis.Kesult from AOTF research based on different direction of incident light effect indicate that with the increase of pole angle of incident light spectral resolution of AOTF will gradually increase. The double-filtering experimental results confirm that the double-filtering achieves a 40.4% to 83.2% improvement in spectral resolution and 9.5570 dB to 13.2407dB suppression of sidelobes. The result from this exploratory study demonstrates great application prospect in the field of the acousto-optic filtering.
