The integrated acousto-optic tunable filters (IAOTFs) have demonstrated potential applications and exhibit their enormous potential in economy in Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) optical fiber communication systems for their large tunability, narrow bandwidth, low drive power requirement, unique properties of simultaneous multiwavelength filtering and as gain equalizers. However, the application of Polarization-Dependent AOTF is limited because of the polarization diversity in the fiber communication system. Polarization-independent AOTF is a good resolution for solving this problem. In this thesis, the crucial technologies of Polarization-independent (PI) AOTF such as interdigital transducer, surface acoustic waveguide, optical waveguide as well as mode splitter have been studied experimentally and theoretically.First of all, the principle of the device is introduced and the performance parameters and the crucial technologies of PI-AOTF applied in OADM are presented. Secondly, the interdigital transducer, the surface... |
