As the frequency stability, spectral purity, frequency range and output frequency number of frequency source are highly demanded, the test methods and procedures have become increasingly complex and time-consuming. The communication technology has been widely used in many fields, such as industry, medical and education as its developing. Therefore, the automatic test system, which is integrated of electronic testing, computer technology, communication technology and software technology, is the latest trend in industrial instrumentation.Since artificial test method is inefficient and its test data may be deviated due to artificial defects, nowadays more and more products are using computer control test system. This is not only because of the system has high efficiency, which can diagnose faults initially, but also the error caused by manual work could be eliminated. All those advantages make it play a crucial role in saving labor costs and improving productivity.This paper mainly studies how to use Windows based integrated development environment--Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and MFC--to write a visualization software to control and test the frequency synthesizer. Firstly, the characteristics and applications of RS-232 bus, TCP/IP, Socket technology and the SCPI command are studied. Secondly, a communication and control scheme of the frequency synthesizer was proposed with these technologies, and the code was written. Thirdly, a spectrometer communication and control scheme as well as the testing and automation scheme were given. their codes were written.
