In the shipborne electronic warfare system, Single observer passive locating and tracking technology can be seen as an important direction of development of locating technology because it has some advantages as well-hidden and far detecting distance, good mobility and independence, and avoids complex time synchronization and data integration. And single observer passive location tracking system with simple equipment has become the focus of research in the field of passive location.The signal soure localization also is one of the most important research aspects in array signal processing, whose purpose is to deal with the data recived from the antenna array, reduces the interfering signal and noise signal, and estimate the spatial location of the interested source. The traditional locating methods have some disadvantages like locating slow speed and low locating accuracy, but the method based on the array signal processing, which has clearer concept, faster locating speed and higher accuracy, so it has broad prospects for application in modern warfares today when emphasis on hidden, speed and accuracy is growing.The paper fistly raises the significance by analyzing the study at home and abroard, then iniroduees the existing methods of passive locating and summed up its advantages and disadvantages. According to the distance between the source and the receiver array, the source localization can be classified into far-field source localization and near-field source localization.On that basis, we focuse on the study of near-field source localization. Then we come up with deterministic sampling filters by which we enhance the convergence rate and positioning accuracy obviously, in order to improve the tracking performance of the interacting multiple model algorithm on the target state mutation, a novel interacting multiple model algorithm is presented and computer simulation shows its efficacy and feasibility. At last we give a structure and locating process of single-observer passive locating prototype is briefly introduced in this paper.
