The transmitter illustrated in this paper is mainly used for certain long distance artillery location and fire correction radar. There are strict requirements on power, size and weight of the transmitter because the radar system is a vehicular system, thus the relative measures are taken on circuit design and structural techniques for control detecting system, pulse modulator and TWT HV power supply during development of the transmitter, and finally, the performance, size and weight are all fulfill the requirements of the transmitter system.The grid control TWT transmitter consists of microwave amplifying chain, HV power supply, pulse modulator, control detecting unit and cooling system. In this paper, the high power grid control TWT transmitter with high performance is studied deeply based on the design requirement of artillery location and fire correction radar. The main functions and specifications of each part of the grid control TWT transmitter with high performance are analyzed in main in this paper, and the control detecting circuit, TWT HV power supply and pulse modulator of the gird control TWT transmitter are designed in main.MCU used to be the core of the transmitter control detecting system, the complex programmable logic devices(CPLD) integrated for the periphery logic circuit and the computer-controlled monitoring circuit combining with further extended I/O interface, interrupt capability and timing function are all adopted to effectively improve the circuit flexibility and decrease the circuit size. The pulse forming circuit and switching circuit HV and LV separation designing method is used for pulse modulator designing, and the HF switching power supply is adopted for bias power supply of the modulator to improve the performance and reliability of the modulator. The HV insulation cement imbedded mode is used for the HV part of the pulse modulator to reduce the size and weight of the modulator. The duty ratio and pulse width continuous adjustable PRF of the designed modulator can be maximally achieved to 100 kHz. PWM full bridge phase shift zero-voltage zero-current soft switch changing technique is adopted for TWT HV power supply circuit designing, which is effectively improve the efficiency of the HV power supply, and not only the power capacity can be increased, but also the efficiency is high, switching noise is low, electromagnetic compatibility is good and the stability and reliability of the circuit is excellent. The dry solid insulation HV embedding technique is used for structural design to reduce the size of the HV power supply.Miniaturization of the radar system is one important developing tendency 为 for requirement of the modern warfare, thus the design on circuit and structure of the transmitter fulfill the radar requirements. The developed control detecting system, pulse modulator and TWT HV power supply not only fulfill the specification requirement on performance but also achieve the designing requirement on size and weight.
