The passive millimeter wave(PMMW) imaging system is a kind of passive imaging, it does not take the initiative to emit millimeter waves, but rely on receiving the millimeter wave from external radiation, it’s imaging according to that different objects in different radiation energy of millimeter wave.Compared to those active detection imaging systems, for example: the traditional laser and infrared system, The PMMW not only can work normally in low visibility environment, but also has no radiation hazard to the human body scanning. The PMMW imaging system is mainly composed of a front lens antenna, array receiving channel, back-end servo control unit, signal acquisition and processing unit, signal processing unit, and a display control unit. At present, our country faces serious military and terrorist threat, the PMMW imaging technology will have great prospect in the military, security and other fields.The display control unit of PMMW imaging systems early generally uses a personal computer to process data, display and control.Due to the huge volume, high costs, it does not conform to the characteristics of miniaturization, integration, low costs etc. The PMMW imaging system in this paper will use the embedded system as the display control unit. Embedded system has the advantages of good stability, strong performance, low power consumption, small volume, low costs, and it can manifest its advantage combining with other technology. Application of embedded technology on the PMMW image system will greatly improve integration and miniaturization level of the system. it brings great convenience to cost control and the later maintenance of the system.In this paper, based on the actual research project, using ARM embedded development platform and Linux operating system, completed the design and implement of the display and control terminal in this PMMW imaging system, the research contents and results are summarized as follows:1. Through the analysis of the overall scheme of PMMW imaging system and its requirements of performance indicators, analysis of the display and control terminal selection. Selected the display and control terminal hardware platform which includes the communication interface between other units in this system, selected the display and control terminal software platform which includes the choice of operating system and graphical interface framework.2. Completed the transplantation, configuration and building of the host development platform, including configure the environment variables. Completed the transplantation, configuration and building of the target machine software platform, including transplantation, configuration, compilation of BootLoader and newest embedded Linux kernel, the root file system and its mirror making, the transplantation of GUI running platform Qtopia.3. Completed the design, development and test base on the underlying of the Linux device driver, including writing driver program of various data transmission interface and other underlying hardware devices in the system, transplantation some of board level configuration files. Finally, debugged and tested its performance.4. Completed the design and write of control terminal interface, completed the design, development and test of the upper application program, completed the system function requirements. Including real-time display, storage, processing and contrast of image data, monitoring status information of the system, controlling the servo system and so on.5. Completed the joint debugging between the display and control terminal and the other modules unit of the system, including the data transmission with other unit, the function model with other unit, and the whole debugging of system, debugging results meet technical indicators of the system.
