The passive millimeter wave(PMMW) imaging system receives electromagnetic radiation from the object itself in the millimeter wave band, it’s imaging according to the difference of the radiation energy. Compared with the traditional visible light imaging and infrared imaging, it can penetrate the clothing and the parcel to carry out the detection of the hidden objects. Compared with active millimeter wave imaging and X-ray imaging, it is not harmful to human body. The excellent technical characteristics of the passive millimeter wave imaging has been highly regarded in human security, anti-terrorism monitoring and other fields.The display and control unit is an important part of the passive millimeter wave imaging system. Implementation of display and control terminals have a variety of ways, either using a laptop, you can use the embedded system. Two platforms have their own advantages: notebook computer has a large storage capacity, fast processor speed, high efficiency of software development, convenient and flexible to use; The embedded system has the advantages of small size, low power consumption and low cost. It has a great advantage in system integration and cost control.In this paper, based on the specific research projects, the millimeter wave transmission characteristic of infrared radiation and the imaging mechanism were summary and study, and the overall design of a practical millimeter wave imaging system, some key techniques of the design. The main research contents of this paper include:The main contents are summed up as follows:(1) Accomplish the analysis of passive millimeter wave radiation theory, passive millimeter wave imaging mechanism and the research on the millimeter wave band radiation characteristics of typical materials.(2) The overall designs of the imaging systems has been finished. Combined with the overall technical indicators and the performance of the imaging system, the core parts of the display control terminal notebook computer and embedded system needs analysis, indicators, as well as part of the selection of indicators, to determine the software and hardware platform.(3) Accomplish the design of the core unit W band lens antenna through the theoretical model analysis, simulation, calculation and optimization.(4) The system imaging experiments has been completed. The experimental results demonstrate that the functions of the relevant designs match the design requirements.
