With the rapid development of communication technology, more and more high speed interface design has been selected in the design of communication equipment, such as GMII, SGMII, XAUI, RapidIO and so on. In order to meet the requirement of hardware design, standard communication protocol and general modular design should be used in the design, which make the software and hardware modules has strong versatility and portability.The background of this paper is as follows: Develop a Communication adapter plate used in the test equipment based on ATCA,which connected to the ATCA chassis backplane through gigabit network interface, and connected to the under test equipment through special interface board.According to above requirements, the paper focuses on the Gigabit Ethernet UDP/IP protocol stack implementation based on the embedded systems, and uses FPGA+DSP hardware platform as the implementation of Gigabit Ethernet UDP/IP protocol stack. The main content of this paper is :1.Study on the standard UDP/IP protocol stack, analysis the standard UDP/IP protocol stack’s hierarchical functions, and design a communication protocol stack according to the application requirement and hardware features.2.Research the application of embedded technology in the communication field, deeply discuss the development trend of embedded system, which focuses on the high performence FPGA and DSP in the field of communication, and make solutions to the actual requirement of embedded Ethernet application.3.Design the UDP/IP protocol stack based on the FPGA+DSP hardware platform. In this design, FPGA is used as the main channel of communication, DSP is used as the co-processor to process part of the UDP/IP protocol stack. This design, which functional area is clearly divided, uses modular design to achieve the requirement.4. By analysising simulation and hardware test result of this design, it shows that the design accords with IEEE802.3-2008 standard at the link layer design, provides 1000 Mb Ethernet bandwidth and compatible with 10M/100 M Ethernet, provides full duplex communication channel, makes the conversion between UDP/IP protocol and special equipment communication protocol, and the research result has been widely used in other projects.
