The mainly finished task of this paper is designing and simulating an V band downconverter with low conversion loss , which realized by use of passive 4th harmonic mixing. It introduces the mixed theory and design method of a microstrip 4th harmonic mixer worked at V band. The mixer mainly consists of a waveguide-to-microstrip transition, input and output filters, matching networks and an antiparallel Sckottky-barrier diode pair. Ansoft serenade 8.7 was utilized to design, simulate and optimize the system. The integrated circuit was simulated in the Rogers's Duroid 5880 with 0.127mm thick and dielectric constant of 2.2. The optimum conversion loss can achieve 11.05 dB.At present, this is nationally the first time that the author has started to research V band mixer . In the relatively international reports and articles about that, the optimum conversion loss of microstrip 2th harmonic mixer is 12 dB, and the 4th is 11.3 dB. In contrast to this , this design shows a good characteristic of relatively low conversion loss.
