Sand table in military training originated at the end of the 19th century. With the development of the society, sand table is widely used in science & technology hall, museum, real estate exhibition hall, multi-functional conference room, board role-playing games and the other exhibition hall. The progress of science and technology makes the sand table multimedia gradually. Through integration of sound, light, electricity, three-dimensional visual and embedded intelligent technology, the organic combination of high-tech and traditional sand table is made successfully. It makes the traditional sand table have successfully reclaimed new lives with the usage of voice introduction, lighting effects, smart touch and interaction between the users.The project,the research and development of multimedia sand table,is cooperated with the Blue Hat Culture Communication co., LTD. based on the above background. The research and development of the first generation production is based on the WinCE operating system,but Wince operating system has been found many disadvantages after put into the market. After investigation, the Android operating system for this production has a stronger advantage relative to other operating systems. Therefore, The second design of the production will be developed on the Android operating system. The project consists of three modules:multimedia sand table module, Android client and Android server. Based on the three modules, the project need to complete the design of the following four parts:(1) The development of 3rd party applications of the Client-side; (2) the communication between sand table module the client and the server; (3) The management of the data on the server; (4) The research and development of underlying design of hardware and software.The development and design of the project includes cable data communication between the server and sand table module and the wireless data communication between the server and the client. For the cable data communication, after the hardware connection between the sand table module and the server, the communication must be based on the underlying data developed by C language. Android’s serial port multiplexing function is hardly realized in a serial port programming compared with the traditional serial port technology. This project adopts the technology of JNI in order to solve the data interaction between different platforms under the Android system. For the wireless communications, this project of wireless data interaction function is based on the WiFi network. WiFi makes data transmission between the Android devices more efficient and concise compared with BT and other wireless transmission scheme. The wireless transmission scheme will lead to more rapid, more high quality service to the users.Finally, we take a series of effective verification for the whole communication system through many tests. The research and development work is illustrated stable and perfect by the results of multiple sets of experiments. Generally speaking, this product has a good performance in data transmission between the Android devices and it meets the communication requirements of users.
