With development of modern science and technology, wireless communications, electronic warfare, radar, guidance and other areas of the RF are developed from the RF band to millimeter wave band, it puts forward higher requirements on the performance of the millimeter wave power amplifier. In this paper, the a power amplifier of band of Ka is designed, the output power reaches 3.5W, the good device performance is achieved. The novel method of 3 cascaded power devices is applied to design.In this paper, First, We review in detail on the development of millimeter wave solid-state power amplifier technology and application of millimeter wave solid-state power amplifier of the status quo, and summarize the basic concepts, basic theory, the solid state power amplifier working principle, design process and so on, as well as the CAD design of microwave power amplifier is analyzed. Then according to the design demand for Ka band power amplifier, we use 3 cascaded to the design and simulation, which mainly involves the design selection, matching circuits and bias circuit topology,. The results are show that the simulation by ADS, amplifier performance meet the design index requirements, the simulation results show the output power greater than 3.5W, gain greater than 17 dB good amplifier performance.In this paper, we design the power amplifier based on a large number of simulation results and theoretical analysis, so that each step in the design are founded, and according to the engineering practice of experience, makes the final design results satisfied performance of device.
