The traditional monostatic radar or bistatic phased array radar has been unable to satisfy the needs of the complex modern battlefield environment since the electronic warfare had been proposed. The bistatic MIMO radar studied in this paper combines the advantages of double/multi static radar’s distribution mode and the collected multipleinput multiple-output(MIMO) radar, by ways of receiving station front-distributed and each transmit channel exploits mutually orthogonal waveforms, which shows excellent performance and development potential in weak target detection, resisting to low altitude penetration, anti-interference and RF stealth.This paper is based on the basic principle of bistatic MIMO radar. Focus on the study the of the weak target detection under the clutter background and present a high efficiency method of clutter simulation, deduce the detection probability of CA-CFAR and OS-CFAR in the Rayleigh-distribution clutter background, analyze the problem of the step frequency division linear frequency modulation(SFDLFM) signal’s sidelobe, compare the work performance of weak target detection with the phased array radar. The main work of this paper is listed as follows:1. Introduced the basic target detection architecture and signal processing procedure of the bistatic MIMO radar, and the CA-CFAR and OS-CFAR, two kinds of Constant False Alarm Rate(CFAR) detecting methods.2.The method of the clutter patches division which satisfie the resolution constraints of transmitting angle,receiving angle and range is given, as well as the methods of clutter patches’ scattering coefficient and amplitude fluctuation simulation. Presented the idea of pre-storing the parameters of clutter patches to improve the clutter simulation efficiency, and verify its effectiveness by simulation.3. Discussed the detection probability of CA-CFAR and OS-CFAR, in the background of Rayleigh-distribution clutter and considering the radar cross section(RCS) fluctuation or not. Deduced the bistatic MIMO radar’s signal-clutter-ratio(SCR) output after signal processing, resulting in two kinds of CFAR detection probability of the bistatic MIMO radar, and verified by simulation; Analyzed the problem of SFDLFM signal’s sidelobe; Compared the MTI and CLEAN algorithm, two kinds of clutter suppression algorithms’ performance in slow target detecting; Compared the detection performance of CA-CFAR with OS-CFAR to a weak target nearby a strength one in the condition of sidelobe interference by simulation.4. Through the simulation and the theoretical deduction, compared the bistatic MIMO radar and phased array radar in aspects of dynamic range, weak target detection ability, distance resolution, anti-deception jamming in distance, and embodied the advantages and development potential of bistatic MIMO radar in weak target detection.
