Compared to the traditional right hand mateials, the left hand material has reverse effect, and support the wave back propagation. Due to its unique negative refractive index, inverse Doppler effect, subwavelength diffraction, and inverse cherenkov radiation electromagnetic characteristics, it has wide application prospect, left-handed materials worldwide extensive research and promote the study of its application in microwave devices. The dielectric constant permeability and magnetic permeability is negative, energy and wave vector are in the opposite direction and obey the left hand rule. Electromagnetic band gap materials(such as electromagnetic band gap(EBG) structure and defect ground structure(DGS) are developed from photonic crystals, The EBG materials can be realized is in another medium by a medium periodic or aperiodic array of new artificial electromagnetic material, to control the electromagnetic wave propagation of medium. The electromagnetic wave will not be propagate through the materials, if the frequency falls within the band gap. The material has the advantages of rejection, slow wave, high impedance, the characteristics of compact structure, suppressing harmonic, high efficiency, decrease the size of the device, and has wide application prospect.In this thesis, by using the new structure of left-hand materials, defects, several kinds of high performance filters and phase shifters passive devices are researched, to improve the performance of microwave communication system. The main contents are as follows:According to the practical engineering application and the characteristics of the existing microwave devices, make full use of the unique electromagnetic properties of metamaterials, starting from the design theory of microwave devices, metamaterials designed in the system can be used in various microwave devices. To improve the optimization research of artificial electromagnetic material on the function and structure of the original microwave devices, the development of artificial electromagnetic material type microwave devices, including filter and phase shifter, working in Ku band. By using a new type of artificial electromagnetic materials, to further improve the performance of microwave devices, reducing the size of the device and electromagnetic compatibility, and explore the new features of the device, to further promote microwave device miniaturization, integration, high reliability, high controllability of the direction of development.The thesis has designed two kinds of microwave passive circuits, We can see from the experimental results, their work performance is good and has the advantages of small size. The simulated and experimental results further suggests that the use of left-handed materials, the design of EBG structure miniaturization and integration of the RF system of microwave passive circuit is of great significance.
